On Wednesday, October 30th, renowned theatre artist David Greenspan will present his Obie award-winning one-person show The Argument at FIU.
The Argument is an adaptation of Aristotle’s classic, The Poetics. Greenspan brings the over 2000 year old script to life with the deep insight and sharp wit that have been hallmarks of his career.
The New York Times said, “Although he purports to be impersonating a writer and thinker of the fourth century B.C., he is more the classics professor of a bored college student’s dreams, a magnetic charmer whose passion for his subject moistens even the driest material and who is not afraid to be a cutup once in a while.
Greenspan’s career as a playwright, director, and actor spans over three decades, on and off Broadway as well as in theatres across the country. In 2010, he was presented with the Obie Award for Sustained Achievement in recognition of his remarkable career. He is known as one of America’s boldest theatre artists.
Currently, Greenspan is in town performing in Miami New Drama’s The Bridge of San Luis Rey, at the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach. Greenspan also wrote the play, an adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s novel by the same name. His play, She Stoops to Comedy, was presented last year at FIU.
The Argument will take place on Wednesday, October 30th at 3pm in the DM-150 Theatre. It runs approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by a talk back with the artist. The performance is free, but seating is extremely limited and seating priority will be given to current and former FIU Theatre students.
