The music industry is a vibrant, glamorous, and ever-growing engine of economic and cultural growth around the world. It is in need of musicians not only educated in their instrument, but educated in the business of the industry.  From performing art centers, symphony orchestras, and recording studios to outdoor festivals, arenas and museums, music is an integral part of society.

The School of Music at Florida International University now affords students the opportunity to focus on music business within the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree.  This music business concentration is designed to prepare students for a career in the music industry at all levels. The degree will provide you with the breadth of knowledge you need to succeed in your career as a music business professional, whether you want to work with traditional major record labels, the rapidly expanding market of digital media, or live productions and concert management.

In addition to the university and music core curricula, students in the Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Music Business will complete 15 credit hours of courses in the College of Business. These 15 credit hours, constituting a business minor, can be taken in a concentration in general business, entrepreneurship, or marketing. The music core curriculum includes courses such as music theory, music history, ensembles, and private instruction on the student’s instrument.  The Music Business portion of the curriculum includes Business of Music, Advanced Business of Music, Grant Writing for the Arts, and Internship in the Performing Arts. There is also a Minor in Music Business available which includes 15 credits of courses in the Music Business concentration. A student must apply to the Minor in Music Business through the School of Music.
