On October 27, 2016, FIU Interior Architecture students and faculty were honored at the NEWH South Florida Chapter’s Annual SOFHIE and Scholarship Award Dinner held at Jungle Island in Miami Beach, FL.

Each year, NEWH (The Hospitality Industry Network) holds a dinner to celebrate distinguished students and industry professionals within the hospitality field. These scholarships and recognition awards serve as a way to promote interest and education in the hospitality industry or related fields.

This year’s South Florida student recipients included two FIU Interior Architecture candidates, Isabella Hoyos and Elizabet Lyon. Both outstanding individuals were handpicked from a pool of qualified applicants and were awarded a coveted scholarship for their excellence in hospitality design.

Another stand out honoree was FIU Interior Architecture Senior Instructor, Katie Rothfield. Professor Rothfield received the Silver Star Award for her contributions to the NEWH South Florida Chapter as their long-time Educational Representative.

We congratulate Isabella, Elizabet, and Professor Rothfield for their excellence and dedication to the hospitality industry of South Florida, and we acknowledge our student volunteers, Brianna Hunter, Noah Peters, Valentina Montoya, and Carolina Real for participating in the event.
