The Communication Arts Department is home to FIU’s award-winning Debate Team, which regularly competes against top collegiate forensic teams including Harvard, Georgetown, Yale and Columbia. Over the last fourteen years, FIU Debate has successfully represented the University in various tournaments and competed in diverse styles, including both parliamentary and policy debate.

The Debate Team is an on-campus student group that focuses on fostering public deliberation. FIU Debate has become a leader in promoting dialogue and public debate throughout the university community and Miami. It regularly participates in civic dialogue programs and fosters democracy through the organization of public debates. Our Debate students frequently work closely with community organizations to moderate public forums and civic discussions.

For the 2013 Spring semester, FIU Debate will participate in several tournaments and will host two on-campus National Issues Forums with the support of the Kettering Foundation.

The Debate Team invites current FIU students to participate in its upcoming events and competitions. Team meetings take place in VH 219 Tuesdays at 3:30pm and Wednesdays at 3pm.

FIU Debate thank FIU Student Government, The College of Art + Architecture, The Department of Communication Arts and the members of our community for their financial and moral support.
