Message of Department of Theatre Chair Marilyn R. Skow:

On Friday afternoon, November 22, at 3:00 pm in our Main Stage Theatre there will be a Master Class with Joy Abbot and Davis Gaines.  It will be a great privilege for us to host them for this event.  Joy Abbot is the wife of the late, great, George Abbott, writer of many hit Broadway musical theatre shows, the most well known of which is Damn Yankees.  Ms. Abbott has had an amazing career herself as a singer and composer, and is coming to share her experiences with the College of Architecture + The Arts. Davis Gaines holds the record for the longest single actor run of playing a leading role on Broadway, that of the Phantom in the hit musical Phantom of the Opera.  He, too, is eager to share his experiences and answer any questions you might have.  I am asking that all of you make every effort to attend this special event, because it is expressly for you, the students.  Students from the School of Music are expected to attend as well.  Please come prepared with questions to ask.

In addition, Mrs. Abbot and Mr. Gaines will be performing the following evening in the WPAC Concert Hall as a benefit to raise funds to support the proposed Musical Theatre tracks in the Theatre Department and in the School of Music.  Some of our students from the Musical Theatre Workshop will be performing in the rotunda during the pre-show reception.  Tickets for the benefit can be purchased through our regular ticketing service.
