Attorney and life coach Noelia Moreno spoke to more than 70 Communication Arts students recently in the final installment of the highly successful lecture series “Communication Works.” President of Life Tools Miami, Moreno shared her story of how good communication skills were key to her success in law, business, and life coaching. Currently, she uses communication skills to help her clients achieve extraordinary results in both their careers and their personal lives. In the session, she provided students with helpful tips and illustrated how miscommunication can sometimes lead to unexpected results and disputes. She emphasized the need to be crystal clear in one’s expectations in order to thrive in the workplace.

“Noelia Moreno was insightful and inspirational,” said Communication Arts senior Gaby Garcia. “She reminded me to take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself, no matter how small the task. She stressed the importance of developing leadership qualities, acknowledging the need for help when necessary, asking questions, learning from others, and being mindful of your surroundings and those around you.”

Graduating students present at the lecture had the opportunity to win a free, one-on-one strategy session with Noelia. The session is designed to help students craft a plan for their futures and transition into life after college.

Organized by faculty member Raquel Perez, the Communication Works lecture series provided students with advice from leaders working in communication fields.  It featured successful individuals from fields such as development, marketing, and human resources.  The series aimed to help students make connections between theory and practice.   Students were able to get a better understanding of the role of communication and communication careers in the global economy.

Other speakers in previous Communication Works sessions included Yeily Colon and Caroline Dyal from SBE Miami. The pair gave the students a variety of useful tips, which ranged from dressing appropriately to goal-setting. Pedro P. Garcia, Director of Talent Management for Carnival Cruise Lines, provided insightful information about personal branding and tips for impressing job interviewers. Etain Connor, the managing director of High Tide Initiative, shared with students the importance of communication and networking in order make connections and advance in your career.

The lecture series will continue in fall 2015. For more information, contact Raquel Perez at RaqPerez@fiu.edu
