The FIU Book Authors Recognition Reception featured the work of Professors Robert Gutsche, Moses Shumow, and David Dolata for their recent publications.
FIU CARTA School of Communication + Journalism (SCJ) Professors Moses Shumow and Ted Gutsche showcased their co-authored book, News, Neoliberalism, and Miami’s Fragmented Urban Space (Lexington, 2016). The book focuses on immense media coverage of over-development, the maintenance of narratives of race and nation, and local, neoliberal news discourse about rising seas.
Gutsche also celebrated the publication of Visual Culture for a Global Audience (Cognella, 2016), which he completed with Global Strategic Communication graduate student (and now alum) Alina Rafikova. The book helps students examine critical/cultural concepts of militarization, nation, and racial and gender stereotypes within digital advertising and museum, journalistic, and public communication.
FIU CARTA School of Music Professor David Dolata showcased his book Meantone Temperaments on Lutes and Viol written for musicians by a musician, clarifies tuning systems by providing the basic information, historical context, and practical advice necessary to easily achieve more satisfying tuning results on fretted instruments.
