An important town hall meeting will be convening on Thursday, November 30th at 5pm at the Miami City Hall (3500 Pan American Drive) to discuss the future of the Coconut Grove Playhouse. This is an opportunity for FIU and the entire South Florida theatre community to show support and have their voices heard.
FIU is partnering with the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and Gablestage to renovate and restore the historic playhouse and bring a strong regional theatre back to the Coconut Grove Playhouse. The Playhouse would also house a new MFA program for FIU Theatre.
“We are excited about what this partnership means for FIU Theatre and South Florida,” says Joel Murray, Chair and Artistic Director of FIU Theatre. “The opportunities created by the re-opening of the Coconut Grove Playhouse will have a huge impact not only for our students but for the future of theatre in our community.”
