Jason Torres (Class of 2010), is in town for the week on tour with the show Memphis, now playing at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. The show has been on tour since October, and has already been to over 60 cities all over the country. Jason is in charge of wigs and makeup for the show. This is his first touring show since graduating with an MFA in Wigs and Make-up at North Carolina School of the Arts in 2013. He loves the energy and excitement of being in a new city every couple of days and feels that this has been a great opportunity for him, both professionally and personally. As the Wig and Make-up Supervisor for the show, he has learned how to do things quickly and correctly, since the entire cast must be ready in a short space of time. He has also learned to “always expect the unexpected!”
Jason also has been coming back to FIU for the last three summers to teach the summer edition of the Stage Makeup class for the Theatre Department. He has agreed to come back once again this summer to share his expertise and experience with our students. He has found that he enjoys teaching very much and that it offers a nice balance to his professional makeup career.
Memphis will be playing at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Center until March 9th. For more information on the show, visit https://www.browardcenter.org/online/
