Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) Performance student Erik Rodriguez has been asked to fill in for the role of Jared in Body Awareness at Empire Stage. The show has been extended two weeks and will be running until April 20. Erik will be replacing the talented Clay Cartland.
About taking on this professional role Erik says:
“Getting the opportunity to act with professional actors is something I’ve dreamed about since I decided I wanted to become an actor. Getting this part is seeing all my dreams as an actor come to fruition.”
Regarding Erik, faculty member Wayne E. Robinson, Jr. says:
“Erik brings his experience and sensibilities as a musician into his new career as a performer and writer for theatre. We can look forward to a career that combines his interests and talents.”
Friday, April 12 will be Erik’s first performance, tickets are $10 that evening – Cash only. Concession deals available.

Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, 2009. The play is set in the fictional small town of Shirley, Vermont, where Phyllis, a college campus organizer for Body Awareness Week (whose topics range from a dance troupe of refugee Palestinian children to an eating disorder seminar) lives with her partner Joyce, a high school social studies teacher, and Joyce’s 21-year-old son Jared, from a prior marriage. Jared shows several symptoms of Asperger’s syndrome, but he refuses to see a therapist for treatment. Their houseguest is a middle-aged photographer named Frank Bonitatibus, whose artistic photos of nude women offend Phyllis. Frank’s presence exacerbates the already existing tension between the three of them, and when Joyce agrees to pose for one of Frank’s pictures, this threatens her relationship with Phyllis. Meanwhile, Jared, a self-described autodidact who works at McDonald’s until he successfully tries to get fired because he hates his co-workers, asks Frank for advice on how to attract women.
