This past Friday, FIU Theatre hosted high school theatre teachers from Miami-Dade Public Schools for a day of professional development. Arts Day at FIU is an annual event that provides teachers in all areas of the arts with exciting sessions and collaborative activities led by university faculty, special guests, and outstanding area leaders. Every year, over 500 teachers attend the sessions across all of the arts disciplines.

FIU Theatre faculty led eight different workshops in all aspects of theatre. The workshops were designed to expose teachers to new exercises and activities, approaches to teaching theatre, and technical support for productions.

“We always look forward to Arts Day at FIU,” says Joel Murray, Chair of FIU Theatre. “It’s a great opportunity to connect with our high school theatre teachers and share some of the things we do in the classroom that might be useful to them.”
