FIU Theatre Hosts “An Evening With Cirque” – April 3&4

Two members of the world renowned Cirque du Soleil team will be on campus to speak with students about their experiences in the industry.

  •  — Chris Velvin – Health and Safety Manager, Resident Shows Division in Las Vegas
  •  — Janice Scherry – Head of Wardrobe, Orlando’s La Nouba

 

The evening of April 3rd will comprise dinner and conversations with FIU Theatre’s BFA Design, Tech & Management students. The Cirque duo will share their experiences in this industry and specifically focus on what it means to work for a company like Cirque du Soleil.

Thursday, April 4th Chris Velvin will be visiting Jesse Dreikosen’s Stagecraft class to give a presentation on the ‘Carpentry of Cirque’, and what it means to be a technician with the company. Janice will be visiting Marina Pareja’s Costume Technology class to present on the ‘Wardrobe of Cirque’, and the session will include examining actual examples of costumes used in Cirque productions.

When:
Wednesday, April 3 – Dinner and Conversation with students about their experiences in the industry.
Thursday, April 4 – Class visits for Stagecraft & Costume Technology.
