A photo on Facebook was the catalyst to entice eight alumni to return to re-stage the popular 2002 production of Glengarry Glen Ross. Many ‘likes’ later and a conversation in the comments, all eight cast members are returning – on their own dime – to reprise the popular 2002 production. Several alums are traveling thousands miles. After eleven years, they are all working members in the performing arts community – including Actors’ Equity Association members, high school and university drama teachers and other artists. Closing weekend of FIU Theatre’s annual Alternative Theatre Festival sees this reunion.

This year’s Alternative Theatre Festival is being hailed by Theatre Chair Marilyn Skow as a “Summer of Alumni Giveback”. The alumni agreed to reprise their performances on our stage as special fundraisers for our Theatre Student Scholarship Fund.

The Alternative Theatre Festival opens with the Alumni Showcase (June 20, 21, 22) and closes with a reunion of the 2002 cast of Glengarry Glen Ross (August 8, 9, 10). Other Festival productions are Bachelorette by Leslye Headland (directed by Stephanie Sandoval), Reverse Psychology by Charles Ludlum (directed by Marina Pareja), and A Thousand Years a new play by Kenny Finkle (directed by Michael Yawney – a development piece). Performances are at 8:00PM at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center, Black Box Theatre.
