Leave a Legacy at CARTA

Looking for a way to thank your Alma Mater and the College of Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) for everything they have provided to you? Interested in paying forward the gifts you have received? Planned giving, also known as “leaving a legacy,” is a particularly good and practical way to give to and remember FIU.

There are as many variations on ways to make a donation as there are needs to be met. Whether you’re looking for a time-tested method or are interested in something new, a planned gift takes into consideration your desires, your personal circumstances, and the needs of your heirs.

For example, some planned gifts can pay you income (such as charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts) while others pay income to a charity over time. Other types of planned gifts (such as bequests, beneficiary designations or life insurance, endowed gifts) allow the actual donation/amount to stay with you during your lifetime. There is also substantial amount of flexibility in how to fund your planned gift; assets that may be used include cash, securities, real estate, closely held stock, retirement plan assets, and savings bonds, among a longer list.

A gift to FIU and CARTA is an important legacy for you, your family and the University.   To have a conversation about planned giving, please call Steven Schwartz, FIU’s Director of Estate and Planned Giving, at 305-348-2448. You can also reach out to CARTA Director of Development Lisa Merritt at 305-348-0325 or CARTA Development Officer Diane Ashley at 305-348-0322. Your scholarship designations will go a long way to ensure future generations of CARTA alumni!
