Michelle Antelo, an FIU Theatre alumna, said FIU helped her become who she is today.
Antelo, who graduated in 2012, was one of about 20 Theatre alumni who came to CARTA’s first Theatre Alumni Reception Night on Friday, Nov. 18. The event was then followed by a showing of “A Mid (winter) Night’s Dream” directed by Associate Professor Wayne Robinson.
“Some of my greatest milestones were made at FIU, which is like my home,” said Antelo.
“Every time I come back, it’s like walking down memory lane.”
FIU Theatre Instructor Ivan Lopez said the reception is one night where alumni can come back and visit their campus to catch up with their FIU family.
“When you’re a student, you spend so much time here and the university becomes home and the people you meet become family,” said Lopez who also graduated from Theatre in 2003.
Lopez said he hopes more alumni will stay connected by visiting the campus and share their work, see a show, support students and learn new things about the Department of Theatre.
Antelo is now a freelance actress and has worked closely with several theatre companies in Miami, such as The JQ Studio, What if Works and White Rose Miami.
“I’m confident that wherever I go, FIU goes with me,” Antelo said.
“I want to make FIU proud.”
