MakerBot hosted their first-ever MakerBot Innovation Lab Summit at their headquarters in Brooklyn, New York on June 23-24, 2016, inviting leaders from the 17 existing MakerBot Innovation Labs around the world to share experiences, develop best-practices and network.
One award was presented at the summit—the MakerBot Innovators Award—and that went to alumna Jacqueline Thompson for running the most innovative MakerBot maker space.
Thompson, Office Manager for the Miami Beach Urban Studios, home to the CARTA Innovation Lab, attended this summit along with MBUS Executive Director and CARTA Associate Dean, John Stuart.
A certified MakerBot technician, Jacqueline is primarily responsible for supporting every aspect of 3D printing innovation, from making technical suggestions to overseeing and training a staff of technicians who manage the care and upkeep of the 33 3D printers, which form the largest 3D printing lab in the United States to be housed in an arts and design environment.
Wallace Patterson, Director of Enterprise Services at Makerbot recognized Jacqueline for her boundless enthusiasm, organization, and patience as well as tireless effort and leadership. Patterson also mentioned that the quality of the work at FIU is outstanding. He noted how proud MakerBot is of the CARTA Innovation Lab, which is an outstanding example of a lab that is pursuing world-class research, enhancing student success at FIU, and working with the community to grow the creative economy in South Florida in new and exciting ways.”
