CARTA grad Maria Elena González ’08 was just announced as the newest tenure-track faculty member at the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI), following a highly competitive international search. She will be the school’s newest Assistant Professor in Sculpture.
Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs Rachel Schreiber said that “González brings to SFAI a wealth of experience as a sculptor, public artist, and arts administrator. The list of fellowships she’s received and prizes she’s been awarded is of the highest caliber. She studied in the Bay Area and there are many people here who’ve expressed their excitement at having her return to our community.”
González herself said that the “excitement [she] experienced during my interview at SFAI was quite palpable. The students, the faculty, the administrative team, and the plans for the near future are invigorating.” Founded in 1871, SFAI is one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in the practice and study of contemporary art. We wish Maria Elena the best of luck, and look forward to hearing more great things about this Golden Panther!
