Alumnus Oscar E. Cordova to be awarded at 16th Annual Torch Awards Gala

Our College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts alumnus, Oscar E. Cordova ’85, will be honored at FIU’s sixteenth annual Torch Awards Gala on April 1 at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami.

The Torch Award is the highest honor bestowed upon alumni and faculty by the FIU Alumni Association, and recognizes their outstanding achievements. These FIU supporters are making positive impacts on their profession, the community and our university.

Oscar Cordova Sr. is the Director of Architectural Services for CGI Windows & Doors and has been with the company for 19 years. In this role, he leads a team of Senior Product Consultants who provide technical support and product knowledge to architects, builders, and other professionals in the trade. His professional experience includes working in drafting, engineering, production, product development, estimating, and sales.

Mr. Cordova Sr. holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology from Florida International University. As a Registered CES Provider with the American Institute of Architects, he reaches out to hundreds of architects annually as a speaker. Currently he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Foundation for Architecture, a non-profit organization that advocates the value of architecture to audiences beyond the profession.

Beyond paying tribute to FIU’s most loyal and dedicated supporters, the event will support the future construction of our FIU Alumni Center. Serving as a multi-purpose facility for academic, social and business gatherings, the space will recognize donors, share university history, and showcase both student and alumni accomplishments. The FIU Alumni Center will foster and encourage lifelong connections between Panthers.

Proceeds will also benefit the First Generation Scholarship Fund, providing financial support to qualified undergraduate students who are the first generation in their families to attain a college degree. All donations are matched 100% by the State of Florida, doubling donor impact and making dreams come true for many deserving students.

This year’s masquerade theme is sure to entertain.
