During the last week of June and the first week of July, Miami Beach Urban Studios was proud to host international architect Manuel Clavel and his architecture students from the Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla in Mexico. As part of a summer course called “reTHINKING MIAMI,” the students journeyed to Miami Beach to work on proposals for the Faena district, a new development of space that is boasting a plethora of architects and designers, including Lord Norman Foster, Rem Koolhaas, and Baz Luhrmann, all working to cohesively design a new urban environment for Miami.

The students, working under the direction of Clavel and his coordinater Ricardo Gonzalez, spent 3-4 weeks researching and analyzing in Mexico before coming to South Florida. At MBUS, they utilized the studio spaces, the Makerbot 3-D printers, and the laser cutters in order to bring their visions to reality. Our own Director John Stuart even lectured on June 26, infusing more of the MBUS spirit into their experience. Their proposals to Faena included an art center, a bazaar, a parking structure, and much more. They presented on July 3rd, and hope to infuse their creativity and innovation into the future Faena spaces.

Our international visitors were the epitome of the creativity, innovation, and inspiration that drives all of us here at Miami Beach Urban Studios – and we were thrilled to host them. We wish them the best of luck with their proposals!
