On Tuesday evening, February 25 2014, Miami Beach Urban Studios hosted a conversation with famed architect, Chad Oppenheim. Oppenheim’s architecture is “simultaneously daring and sensible, romantic and reductive; evocative and essential. An alchemist of atmosphere, Oppenheim transforms the prosaic into the poetic– eliciting a site’s inherent power through minimal gesture and sincere means. Spaces and structures, optimized for pleasure and performance, establish aesthetic delight with passioned sensitivity towards man and nature” (from Oppenheim). His discussion with over sixty students, faculty, and visitors from Miami Beach and the surrounding areas centered on the practice of architecture in general, his firm, and the course he recently taught at Harvard.

In 2013, Oppenheim’s firm won the American Institute of Architect’s Miami Firm of the Year in the same year that it sponsored the Lecture Series conducted at the School of Architecture at the College of Architecture + The Arts. Among numerous other accomplishments, the firm has also won the Chicago Athenaeum Award for Excellence in Architecture, the World Architecture News 2012 International Award for Residential Interiors, and three Americas Property Awards, two of which were awarded to projects in Miami, Florida (Ten Museum Park in Miami, and Villa Allegra in Miami Beach).

It was an honor to host such a distinguished architect at the Miami Beach Urban Studios, and we look forward to continued dialogue with him and the College of Architecture + The Arts’ community in the future.
