On Saturday, April 9th – after being nominated by faculty members in FIU Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design – students Veronika Schunk, Maria de Fatima Montoya, and Skyler Stanford presented their accomplishments to jurors of the 2016 ASLA Student Honor & Merit Award Certificate Program in West Palm Beach.

This program by the American Society of Landscape Architects is designed to be a collaborative effort between FIU LAEUD’s program and the Florida Chapter of the ASLA in recognizing academic achievement, design competence, and interpersonal skills of our students.

Each presentation by the FIU LAEUD students on April 9th was twenty minutes long and covered individually executed projects. Students reviewed their academic work as well as other accomplishments, such as awards, exhibitions, and recognitions. Each student also described his/her involvement in ASLA and any community service activity through FIU’s chapter.

Each student who presented was recognized by ASLA with awards:

Their recognition shows that ASLA views these FIU students as responsive and willing to work with others; self-motivated and responsible; and skillful in design (i.e. exploration, discovery, synthesis, and representation of landscape architecture design).

The students will accept their award certificates in August 2016 during the Florida Chapter of the ASLA‘s conference in Jacksonville.
