Andrea_SandovalAndrea Sandoval is currently pursuing her Masters in Landscape Architecture (MLA), and works as  a Graphic Design Intern in the Office of the Dean at the College of Architecture + The Arts (CARTA).  Sandoval dreams of improving the social and economic conditions in low-income communities in Latin America through sustainable construction, particularly in her country of origin. Andrea grew up in the city of Lima, Peru where she began her Bachelors in Architecture. In fall of 2009 she moved to Miami and transferred to FIU’s Landscape Architecture Program within CARTA.

Andrea is the Vice President of the FIU ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects) Student Chapter and continues to be active in extracurricular activities the college has to offer. She was one of the event coordinators for the “LABASH” Landscape architecture educational conference hosted by FIU in 2012, she has worked on two local projects including the reclamation of an abandoned transportation corridor known as the Ludlam Trail and the Urban Development Boundary investigation of three different environments: the urban area, agricultural fields, and the Everglades. Andrea is passionate about sustainability and emphasizes the importance of landscape and the use of green infrastructure in order to obtain a sustainable environment.

Due to her outstanding academic performance she was selected to represent CARTA’s Landscape Department on Univision’s “Es el momento” (“Now is the time”) TV Show, an educational campaign that recognizes the academic achievement of Hispanic students. Andrea was recently nominated ambassador for the “Women who lead conference” organized by the Women’s Centre.

Andrea is an inspiring example of dedication and perseverance, and we are lucky to have her in the Department of Landscape Architecture.
