Staff Spotlight: Michelle Fields, Academic Advisor for School of Architecture

Michelle has seven years of advising experience which started in Miami Dade College – Kendall Campus, then in 2015 became an advisor for FIU’s Department of Politics and International Relations and the Pre-Law Advisor. In 2018, she became part of the CARTA family as an advisor for the School of Architecture. She hold a master’s degree in Higher Education and two bachelor degrees in Art and Religious Studies which I earned from FIU.

Where is your hometown? Miami, FL

When did you start work at FIU? 2015

What is the favorite part of your job? Working with the students.

What is something you learned working with at Interior Architecture Department? That the faculty are wonderful and very helpful.

If you would like to go back to school in and do a major, what would you choose? Master’s in Fine Arts (MFA) or Master’s in Interior Architecture (MIA) 😊

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this? Artist, working in a Gallery, Interior Designer 😊

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? My great great grandmother on my father’s side. She was from the Apache Tribe.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why? Israel, it’s a very magical place.

Favorite eating spot in Miami: Ruson Japanese Steak House.

Do you have any advice to new students coming in to Interior Architecture? It’s hard work but you will have a lot of people supporting you along the way to help ensure your success in the program and in your career.
