Last week the College of Architecture + the Arts (CARTA) had the great pleasure of inviting FIU Landscape Architecture alumni George Valdes and Adrian Von Der Osten as part of the Fall semester lecture series.
Valdes and Von Der Osten titled their lecture ‘Failure and other Architectures‘ in which they shared the evolution of their work and the launch of their most recent entrepreneurial venture Feather and Mint, a company that seeks to provide local goods and perks for the popular Airbnb community, an online marketplace for people looking to book unique accommodations around the world.
In addition to the lecture, the alumni conducted workshops as part of Professor Marta Canaves’ ‘Site Analysis + Design’ class and they led a full day seminar titled ‘Site As Data-Landscape Information Modeling’, which drew over 30 students and faculty from the School of Architecture, and which received top marks from an overwhelming majority of the participants surveyed. Participants of the seminar were able to test the 3D modeling softwares Rhino and Grasshopper and learn how to visualize information and construct models useful in design decision-making.
George and Adrian plan to join us in the Spring 2014 semester as Adjunct Faculty teaching the Design and Entrepreneurship Thinking course offered by FIU Landscape Architecture.
