Landscape Architecture Students Awarded at the Florida ASLA State Conference

The Florida American Society of Landscape Architects (FL ASLA) hosted its annual conference and exposition on July 26th through the 28th at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, Florida.

The conference provides students and industry professionals with fellowship opportunities, tours, education sessions, and keynote lectures in landscape design.

This year, thirteen Florida International University students from the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental and Urban Design attended the statewide conference representing the university and their chapter of ASLA. Six of the students participated as event volunteers during the conference.

On their time off, the students attended lectures and participated in local sketching tours around the city. They also received the opportunity to network with local landscape architects and build professional relationships with design firms.

As part of the conference, an Award Ceremony is held to honor standout landscape architects and students. The awards are given to encourage the advancement and expansion of landscape architecture as a profession. Several students and FIU ASLA Chapter members received accolades for their design work and projects.

“When FL ASLA announced its 2018 winners, it took us by complete surprise. We received an Award of Honor for our Thesis project under the guidance of Professor Roberto Rovira. The project envisions a future where the implementation of sustainable strategies and technologies would help societies and its natural systems adapt to sea level rise, “ said Aurora Alcaide-Ortiz, MLA alumna.
