Five students from the College of Architecture + The Arts Department of Landscape Architecture attended LABash 2014 in Madison, Wisconsin, from March 27th to 29th. LABash is an annual, student-run conference for landscape architecture students that includes workshops, lectures and keynotes by prominent professionals and professors. Landscape Architecture students from around the United States travel to the conference to meet students in the same field from other academic institutions.

The students were able to attend the conference with the help of funds provided by the FIU Council of Student Organizations (CSO), after the FIU American Society of Landscape Architectures qualified as a Gold Organization. This recognition comes after the organization completed 11 CSO points, which involved event creation and planning, community service projects, and participation in university-wide events.

The theme of LABash 2014 was “Naturally Design,” described below by the LABash 2014 website:

The theme for this year’s conference draws on landscape architecture’s inseparable stewardship to the natural world. Wisconsin boasts an incredibly rich ecological heritage of lakes and woodlands, and was the hometown to environmentalist legends John Muir, Aldo Leopold, and Gaylord Nelson.  At the University of Wisconsin, we strive to create designs that unify natural and man-made systems, and preserve the beauty of the world around us.
