The FIU School of Architecture’s Department of Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design (LAEUD) is proud to celebrate current Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) students Juan Rosa and Victor Hernandez, who was recently elected ASLA Student Chapter President, for their recent achievements through the Sigma Lambda Alpha Honor Society. Their recognition highlights the exceptional talent, leadership, and academic excellence within FIU’s LAEUD program.
The department celebrates Juan Rosa, who was awarded a $1,000 2026 Sigma Lambda Alpha Travel Grant in recognition of his accomplishments and continued engagement with the profession.
Reflecting on the recognition, Victor shared his appreciation for the faculty, mentors, and peers who have contributed to his growth as a designer.
“I’m incredibly grateful to my professors and mentors for everything they’ve taught me, and especially to my classmates and peers who never let me settle for average. Being surrounded by so much talent, knowledge, and healthy competition within FIU’s Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design program has pushed me to think bigger, work harder, and become a better designer. I’m honored to receive this recognition, and even more grateful to share it with the community that helped shape me.”
“We could not be prouder of Victor and this outstanding achievement. Even more exciting, this is the first time an FIU student has received this national scholarship.” said Ebru Ozer, chair and professor of FIU’s Department of Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design.
Ozer added that Victor’s recognition reflects not only his individual accomplishments but also the strength of the department and its faculty.
The department also recognizes Professor Linda Chamorro, faculty advisor for the Sigma Lambda Alpha Honor Society at FIU, for her mentorship and support throughout Victor’s journey. Chamorro guided Victor through his initiation into the honor society, assisted him with the scholarship application, and supported him throughout the entire process.
Victor’s national recognition, alongside Juan’s travel grant, highlights the exceptional talent, leadership, and academic excellence within FIU’s Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design program. Congratulations to Victor and Juan on these outstanding achievements and for representing FIU, CARTA, and the School of Architecture with distinction on the national stage.
