The FIU ASLA Student chapter announced its new officers for 2013-14 and discussed future plans for the upcoming year.

3rd year MLA student Andrea Sandoval is the new chapter President and 2nd year MLA student Leah Davis is the new Vice-President. MLA students Suhey Rojas and Steve Feccia were additionally voted as Secretary as Treasurer, respectively. Kenia Medina and Kevin Arrieta are the new Community Service Organization (CSO) representatives for the chapter.

The new team plans to adopt creative methods for community service and fundraising.  “This year we want to implement new activities to raise money and at the same time encourage more students to attend national conferences,” said Andrea Sandoval.  Some of the members of the chapter will travel to St. Petersburg, Florida to represent FIU at the 2013 FLASLA Annual Conference and Expo on July 17-20. “We want to take advantage of these conferences to be well informed, expand our networking circle and continue promoting the landscape architecture profession,” concluded Sandoval.

Later this year, the chapter also plans to attend the 2013 ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO in Boston during November 15-18. The conference is the world’s largest annual gathering of landscape architecture professionals and students, and expects in excess of 6,000 attendees from practitioners, to academics, students, and industry representatives.
