A total of 30 teams participated in this year’s FIU Spring Design Charrette competition, “Gradients” coordinated by Professor Nick Gelpi from the Department of Architecture.

Students presented their work to a group of external jurors, including Cheryl Jacobs, Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects Chapter and Jack Brough from John Capen Brough Architecture. Todd Tragash from STA Architectural Group and Silvia Barisione, curator of the Wolfsonian-FIU participated in the group of jurors too. The two week long competition was held on Collins Ave in Miami Beach.

This year the winning project was the Planted Mosaic led by Professor Ebru Ozer from the Department of Landscape Architecture. Students Daniel Omar Pitaluga, James Christopher Lagreca, Anna Drescher and Manuel Menoya, from the Architecture Department were part of the winning team. Ozer’s group won first place and each of the members were rewarded with an autographed Steven Holl book.

Congratulations to Professor Ebru and her team!
