ONA (Online News Association) South Florida and FIU Journalism + Media presented a full-day training for women in journalism, inspired by ONA’s popular Accelerator program. ONA is the world’s largest association of digital journalists. ONA’s mission is to inspire innovation and excellence among journalists to better serve the public. ONA is open to all communicators, not exclusively journalists.

Focused specifically on leadership tips for women in small markets and local news, this workshop gave a framework for understanding leadership style, charting a path for advancement and building skills in a local newsroom.

The opening Fireside chat featured three of the most influential women in South Florida journalism: Mindy Marques, Publisher and Executive Editor of Miami Herald; Julie Anderson, Editor-in-Chief of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel; and Rebekah Monson, co-founder and COO of WhereBy.Us, The New Tropic. This workshop was based on a longer ONA-Poynter Women’s Leadership initiative.
