Interior Architecture Adjunct professor, Jennifer Benjamin from RTKL, leading interior design firm known worldwide, has been teaching interiors students how to make construction document sets using the 3D modeling program called Autodesk Revit. Autodesk Revit is a 3D modeling software that many in architecture use as a base for creating line drawings, renderings/modeling and detail drawings.
Emphasizing both the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ of creating a clear, informative set of construction documents, the two workshop series addressed both beginners and advanced level topics. Students in the introductory session were amazed at how easy it was to navigate and work with Revit. 3D modeling software programs often seem intimidating, but Benjamin taught both sessions so well that students were left wanting more.
Learners were taught how to create an entire working construction document set, how to model, make walls, understand lineweights, draw details, add and draw symbols, appropriate and consistant text size, etc. Jennifer Benjamin worked alongside Interior Architecture Student Organization (IASO) to make this particular workshop come to fruitiion.
A construction document set is a plan of several drawings that show how a specific project is constructed. A set shows dimensions, elevations, plans, details, demolishion, lighting and electrical and much more further details. This set is crucial in the design industry because it allows engineers and other builders to understand the precision of any future projects.
Our goal is to help students succeed and IASO is planning more workshops that teach other 3D modeling software at beginner level.
