Blue accents lights shone and live jazz music played as the event sponsors awaited the entry of over 900 attendees at the 30th Annual Festival of the Trees. The event was held on Thursday, November 17th at the historic Moore Building in the Miami Design District and hosted Miami’s leading design firms, design enthusiasts, and art aficionados.
Over the years, Festival of the Trees has become one of the leading design events and holiday traditions within the design and architecture community. The event coordinated by the Department of Interior Architecture has raised over the last 15 years over 300K in net proceeds to benefit the students enrolled in the program.
Throughout the event, attendees in their finest attire mixed and mingled while indulging in lite bites, such as sushi and prosecco. Over 40 professional design firms teamed up with different sponsors to create ‘trees’ that were showcased the first floor in the venue. The trees were constructed out of unconventional items such as pencils and straws and were judged by influential design advocates including Susan Preville, Dan Forer, Sebastiano Varoli and Carmen Betancourt-Lewis.
The judges then voted for an array of awards which were issued by the department chair, Janine King. Ticket holders also have the opportunity to not only admire the innovative trees but, to place bids on them to auction off to raise funds for the department. Post-event, the trees are exhibited at Dadeland Mall during the holiday season until January 8th.
