On June 23, 2017, Professor Darci Pappano’s Color Theory class toured a new concept boutique store for German luxury brand, Montblanc located at Dadeland Mall in Miami.

The Montblanc boutique is the prototype store for the new branding the company is rolling out. The designer, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, created a pure and uncluttered aesthetic, mixing black, white and wood. The collections of timepieces, writing instruments, and leather goods are displayed programmatically within the boutique.

The concept store features three main design themes linked to the roots of the Maison. First, the culture of writing derived from cursive handwriting and calligraphy associated with the Montblanc fountain pen provides the curve gesture that shapes the plan of the retail space. Second, the black lacquered wall panels reference the uniqueness of Montblanc black resin of the writing instruments. The third element is craftsmanship, which is present in the structured architecture and dark wood composition.

Professor Pappano and the students were greeted by management and received a tour by a FIU student and sales associate. The visit served as a successful, out of classroom learning experience that allowed the students to engage with retail environments and study the design spaces.

The Department of Interior Architecture wants to thanks Montblanc for this wonderful opportunity!
