Last month, FIU’s third-year (G1) Materials for Interiors students had the unique opportunity to step beyond the classroom and explore real-world design possibilities during a guided tour of the Daltile Design Studio Showroom and Slab Center.
The visit was led by Rocío Rico Gutiérrez, Sales Manager and Co-Chair of the upcoming 2025 Festival of the Trees. Rocío walked students through a wide range of tile and natural stone options, sharing insights on their best applications in interior design and offering a firsthand look at today’s leading materials and trends.

Experiences like these give students meaningful exposure to the design industry. They offer practical knowledge, valuable networking, and mentorship from alumni and faculty who are deeply invested in their success after graduation.

In addition to Rocío’s contributions, Co-Chair Jissette, Project Manager II at Modis Architects, is making headlines in the South Florida architecture and design scene. In partnership with MG Developer, the Modis team recently celebrated the groundbreaking of Metro Parc South, located next to their completed project Metro Parc One, now recognized as Hialeah’s tallest building. This milestone not only transforms the city’s skyline but also highlights the impressive work coming from FIU’s CARTA and the Department of Interior Architecture.
