FIU’s Interior Architecture Cruise Ship and Super Yacht design students, embarked on a cruise to the Bahamas last December. Although this sounds like luxurious travel for college students, the experience was specifically crafted to give the students in this specialized program ‘hands-on’ learning experience. The trip involved a cruise and a tour of the Royal Caribbean ship being renovated in dry dock outside the Bahamas capital, Nassau.
En route to the Bahamas, students toured the back of house operations aboard the ship and learned how a typical cruise functions from the persepective of the service provider, as well as guests. This learning experience helps prepare students to work in the exciting industry of Nautical Design, by helping them understand the role design plays in communicating a brand, in the operations of the cruise, and how construction and renovation takes place.
