On Monday, January 26th, renowned artist Connie McSilver unveiled a 10-feet-tall sculpture called “Whoopee” outside the Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture building.
The sculpture unveiling and subsequent reception at the BEA International Gallery celebrated the launching of a new scholarship fund, which will award those FIU Interior Architecture students who best integrate artwork and collections of art into their designs. The Martin and Constance Silver Award was created to promote the integration of art in interior architecture and to focus on learning on understanding why and how to form a strong and creative relationship between art pieces and the environment that houses them. The reception at the BEA International Gallery also celebrated the addition of a piece of artwork by artist Connie McSilver at the FIU Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum.
The unveiling and reception were co-hosted by FIU College of Architecture + The Arts Dean Brian Schriner and artist Connie McSilver. FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg attended the event, as did as John Stuart (Executive Director of the CARTA Miami Beach Urban Studios), who helped open the event.
Connie McSilver was selected to have her sculpture on display at the FIU School of Architecture to inspire students. The artist’s unique style, which is influenced by her background as a psychoanalyst and social worker, provides a strong visual source of inspiration to contribute to the students’ own creativity development.
