Art in Public Interiors – a course taught by Interior Architecture adjunct faculty member Kemo Duddle (MIA ’14) – has seen visits by important guest lecturers this spring semester.
Thus far, the course has welcomed:
Dr. Constance Silver
Constance Silver, M.S.W., Ph.D is a teacher, psychoanalyst, highly recognized artist, and philanthropist all rolled into one. Dr. Silver is the vice chairperson of the NYU Board of Trustees. Along with her husband Martin, she established the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at NYU.
Sebastien Laboureau
A native of France, Laboureau is the founder of Moonster Fine Arts. He is an adviser to many individuals and corporations investing in art. He has a wealth of knowledge about the value, impact, and growth of the worldwide art market, and is a very active supporter of Art Basel-Miami Beach.
Sir Alan Duddle
Former creative director and member of the board of directors for brands such as Ritz, Dunhill, Cartier, Harrods (London), Sir Duddle was responsible for the interiors, product development, packaging, and marketing of these highly recognized labels, all of which include art in various forms as part of their public identity.
Irvin Lippman
Lippman is the executive director of the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Previously, Irvin held the same post at the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art/Nova Southeastern University and the Columbus Museum of Art (Ohio).
Art in Public Interiors focuses on how students can integrate artwork and collections of art into their interior architecture designs.
The adjunct faculty behind the course, Kemo Duddle, had already established a successful career in both Europe and the U.S before coming back to FIU to teach. He worked on prestigious projects for companies such as Cartier, Calvin Klein, the Ritz Hotel, and Harrods. Duddle presently focuses on high-end homes both in Europe and in the United Sates. He recently launched his own American company called Kemo Design International, which concentrates on residential, hospitality, and commercial establishments, particularly in Miami, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. Duddle has been instrumental in the development of the Martin and Constance Silver Awards, which recognizes students in FIU Interior Architecture for integrating artwork into their designs of interiors.
