Florida International University’s Interior Architecture program proudly announces that fourth-year Master of Interior Architecture students Katia Rodriguez and Alexa Jaspan traveled to New York City this November to be formally recognized as winners of the 2025 NEWH Green Voice Design Competition. Their attendance at the award ceremony was made possible through dedicated sponsorship support, underscoring the value the design industry places on emerging talent with a commitment to sustainable innovation.
Katia and Alexa were honored during BDNY (Boutique Design New York), one of the premier trade fairs in the hospitality design sector. The ceremony brought together leading firms, manufacturers, and educators from across the country, providing the students with high-level exposure to industry networks and conversations centered on the future of environmentally responsible design.

Their winning proposal, selected earlier this year for its conceptual strength and sustainability-driven approach, continues to position FIU Interior Architecture as a national leader in socially and ecologically engaged design education. Both students have previously been recognized with Festival of the Trees scholarships, and their work in the Green Voice Competition further reflects the rigor and creative excellence cultivated within the program.
As they return from New York, Katia and Alexa bring back invaluable professional experience, insight into current hospitality design trends, and renewed momentum for the next phase of their academic and professional trajectories.
FIU Interior Architecture congratulates them once again on this outstanding honor and celebrates the continued impact of their work on the national stage.
