Thirteen Communication Arts students achieved a significant and extraordinary milestone in their academic journeys. On November 18, 2015 the students were inducted into the FIU Alpha Beta Psi chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the department’s national honor society. Membership into the Alpha Beta Psi chapter of Lambda Pi Eta at FIU is granted to students who have achieved a high level of academic excellence in the communication field, while maintaining a minimum cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 overall, and a 3.5 in the major.
In front of proud family members, friends, faculty, and peers, the inductees performed the Lambda Pi Eta ceremonial traditions, which includes the lighting of the candles. Antoine Hardy, an FIU visiting instructor and fellow Lambda Pi Eta Lifetime member, spoke of his experiences joining this prestigious organization, how it affected his life, and led to his career choice. Additionally, each of the inductees were presented a recognition pin, and given the honor cords, which are to be worn as part of graduation regalia. Several members addressed student accomplishments during the ceremony, as well as the impact of being a member of this distinguished honor society.

Lambda Pi Eta, founded in 1985, has over 18,000 members in nearly 400 colleges and universities worldwide. Lambda Pi Eta represents what Aristotle saw as the three ingredients of persuasion: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) relating to emotion, and Ethos (Eta) defined as character, credibility, and ethics.
Lambda Pi Eta is a nationally renowned honor society governed by the National Communication Association. Since 2013, FIU has hosted a university chapter of the honor society, which recognizes students with a high level of academic excellence in the communication field. With over 50 members, the goal of Lambda Pi Eta is to give Communication Arts students opportunities to grow professionally in the communication field and teach them skills they can take with them beyond graduation.
