As our Spring semester comes to a close, CARTA looks back on March 29th, where BOLD FIU (our resident strategic communication agency) hosted ComCon after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ComCon is a series of conferences that bring FIU students together alongside some of the best names in the communications industry, giving them a once and a lifetime opportunity to listen and interact with them.
During the event, students were able to celebrate the different fields of communication such as marketing, journalism, public relations, and advertising through a series of panel discussions led by Luz Castillo ‘14, Rafael Brazon-Di Fatta ‘13, and Leslie Ovalle ‘18. They shared their stories of how they paved their way to their professions and successes while sharing advice for all students.
In her panel, Castillo shared her stories about her time interning at a cruise planning organization and working in several different accounting corporations like Hemsworth Communications. She would eventually find her place as both the Account Supervisor at FINN Partners and a freelance copywriter at Soto Agency.
When it comes to working in public relations, Fatta is not a stranger in this realm. In his panel, he discussed how he went from working as a publicity manager at Acoustyle Digital Marketing & Communication to becoming a full-time account manager at Sachs Media.
With her love of the radio and broadcasting, Ovalle shared her journey of finding her career as a multimedia producer for WLRN Public Radio & Television’s morning show. She also talked about how working in the radio world is not always easy and requires a lot of dedication to create the content you listen to every day. The event has proven to be an amazing success, as it has been in the past years it had taken place.
