On February 13, the FIU School of Communication hosted a special event celebrating Black History Month alongside the induction of four outstanding students into Lambda Pi Eta, the official honor society of the National Communication Association.
The combined celebration recognized both the academic achievements of communication students and the broader importance of reflecting on leadership, mentorship, and legacy within the context of Black History Month.
Lambda Pi Eta recognizes undergraduate students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement in communication studies while maintaining a strong commitment to scholarship, leadership, and service. Induction into the honor society reflects students’ dedication to academic excellence and engagement within the discipline.
The ceremony featured a keynote address by Dr. Brittany Davis, who serves as Program Manager for the Centers for Student Engagement in the Division of Student Affairs and as an Instructor in African and African Diaspora Studies here at FIU. In her remarks, Dr. Davis encouraged students to reflect on their personal journeys, embrace their evolving identities, and lead with confidence and intention while prioritizing mentorship and creating sustainable impact for future generations.
Faculty, family members, and peers gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the newest inductees and the important role communication scholarship plays in preparing students to become thoughtful leaders, critical thinkers, and ethical communicators.
The School of Communication congratulates the newest members of Lambda Pi Eta:
