Florida International University’s Public Relations Student Society of America, hosted their first annual PR Agency Crawl. During the event, over twenty students networked with professionals and gained access to exclusive internship opportunities. They visited a total of five strategic communications agencies in the Wynwood/Brickell area: Max Borges Agency, GreenRoom Agency, Quinn PR, Golin and The Workshop Collective.

The attendees met at Miami Ad School in Wynwood, who also partners with FIU’s Global Strategic Communications Master’s Program Creative Track. A few students were interested in applying to the program and got a tour of the facilities, including the creative studios and a recording studio classroom with denim covered walls.

Each agency emphasized the importance of multiple internships. Every day, the industry gets more and more competitive. In order to gain employment, many entry-level positions require a minimum of three internships during undergrad. Nicole Brandfon at Max Borges Agency, recommended being open to internships post-graduation. A few months after earning her degree from the University of Florida, she interned at the agency. She became a senior account executive in two years.

FIU PRSSA’s mission is to help their members become successfully employed in the field through professional development, networking, and internship opportunities. The PR Agency Crawl allowed them to do just that. The organization will host the PR Agency Crawl every year and is looking into the possibility of hosting the event every semester.
