Our dear friend and colleague Kathleen Watson, Senior Instructor of Communication Arts, passed away on December 21, 2012.
Teaching at FIU since 1998, Professor Watson was a founding faculty member of the originally called Department of Speech Communication. Later, she was instrumental in developing the Department’s Business Communication curriculum.
Kathleen was a nationally-renowned expert on nonverbal communication, was actively involved in faculty governance in the College of Architecture + The Arts, and was well-known throughout the University.
She touched the lives of thousands of students, keeping in touch with them long after their coursework ended. Despite her many responsibilities, her door was always open to students and she frequently gave career advice, loaned out books, and revised papers for those who asked.
She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A lending library and a scholarship will be established in her name. More information about these will be given in the coming months.
