Florida International University’s College of Architecture + The Arts celebrated its Spring 2015 Commencement on Sunday, May 4th, led by President Mark B. Rosenberg. More than 100 Communication Arts students, the largest number to graduate to date, walked across the stage at commencement to receive their Bachelor of Arts degrees.

“Graduation was one of the happiest days of my life. I just wanted to freeze the moment so it could last forever. It was a defining moment for me. I wanted to stop and reflect on the life-changing challenges and experiences, and think about the individuals who have impacted my journey and helped me realize that there is no limit to what I can achieve,” said Glendalys De Jesus, graduating communication arts student.

Communication Arts students Melissa Chavarri, Ximena A. Cuadra, Dyana Cuan-Garcia, Glendalys De Jesus, Evelyn Gandolff, Alejandro Gil, Margaret Heinsohn, Edgardo Maria, Gabriela Perez, Daniel Tarasiuk, and Karen Villareal graduated with prestigious honors such as cum laude and magna cum laude. Mariseli De La Cruz received top honors and graduated summa cum laude, and was the only 2015 Spring graduate in CARTA to receive a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.

Many of the new alumni have already secured excellent positions in a variety of communication fields. A few of these include Gabriella Garcia, who began working at the Consulate of Belize in Miami as a consular assistant on May 4, the day after graduation, Diego Saldana-Rojas, who accepted a position in Miami with WLRN as a contributing writer; Eva Maria Gasson, who became assistant director of marketing for FIU Online; and Christine Llano, a communications specialist with the Miami-Dade Police Department.
