Assistant Teaching Professor, Jefferson Noël was recognized as one of the 2025 Beacon Award recipients from the Ellis Island Honors Society, for his work in the community and his organization – Barbershop Speaks.
The Honors Society notes that the Beacon Award recognizes the work of Millennials and ‘Gen Z’ who are revolutionizing how we communicate and do business in the 21st century. The Ellis Island Honors Society honors the importance of immigration to America’s prosperity and celebrates the contributions immigrants and their progeny have made to our nation.
“This award is not about me; it highlights the power of Haitian-Americans who sacrificed and endured deep struggles to make my path smoother,” said Noël. “For me, the Beacon Award symbolizes the power and importance of lifting as you climb and pushing past the ‘no’s’ while continuing to say yes to myself. I will continue to thrive because I believe in the motto of the Haitian people, L’union fait la force—unity makes strength. When we come together, we all win.”
