FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg recognized 31 distinguished members of the FIU academic community for their outstanding achievements in research and scholarship at the Top Scholars reception. Among the engineers, scientists, lawyers, and artists recognized was Communication Arts professor Lynne M. Webb. Her publications span more than four decades. She conducts research examining interpersonal communication in a variety of forms, venues, and relationships.
The FIU Top Scholars Award celebrates faculty for outstanding success, including publishing prolific or award winning publications, in their fields. Since 2008 it has been tradition by Florida International University President Mark B. Rosenberg and now Provost Kenneth G. Furton, to call for nominations from Deans who identify individual faculty who have excelled research and publication. Top Scholars are nominated by Deans and selected by the Provost and President and celebrated each spring semester.
Webb joined the FIU Communication Arts faculty in August 2013. Her work has appeared in numerous national and international journals including the Journal of Family Communication, Journal of Applied Communication, Health Communication, and Computers in Human Behavior as well as in prestigious edited volumes including the Handbook of Family Communication (Sage, 2014) and Motherhood Online (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2011). She is the 2015 recipient of the Osborn Teacher-Scholar Award, the Southern States Communication Association’s highest award; in 2012, the University of Arkansas designated her a Fulbright Master Researcher. She completed her PhD in Communication at the University of Oregon. She teaches courses at FIU that include Interpersonal Communication, Conflict Management, and Communication in Social Media. Dr. Webb exemplifies the best of FIU and serves as an inspiration to all.
