BOLD FIU, in conjunction with Lambda Pi Eta, hosted its annual spring conference, ComCon, on February 20th, 2018.
What is ComCon? ComCon is a conference that brings FIU students together with the best experts in the marketing and communications industry, giving students the opportunity to listen to the professionals’ experience, expertise and interact with them.
This year they had three amazing speakers that each amazed our students in different ways. First, they had faculty professor and digital marketing expert, Gustavo Mosquera.
Gustavo gave a very interactive presentation full of up-to-date knowledge. In his presentation, “Millennial’s trigger to action: Notifications”, Gustavo talked to us about the importance of understanding your costumer’s need and how the game has changed with the new generation. He focused on how social media and online notifications have become a big part of digital marketing. His presentation was very attractive and entertaining as it was designed for the right audience.
Then, Professor Grizelle De Los Reyes shared her experiences and how she got to the position where she is today. Professor De Los Reyes told our students how she began working in the tv/ advertising industry and worked in several areas of it throughout the years. She showed us how staying hungry and driven will help you reach your goals. Our students were inspired by how passionate she was about her career and how she became who she is as a strong Hispanic woman.
Lastly, they had Andrew Goldberg, the Vice President of Marketing at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Andrew gave our students the knowledge and perspective of someone who is currently working in the marketing field. Andrew shared with our students how he develops the strategies to market the events at the performing center. He also spoke on his background and how it helps him in his career. Our students had a great time with Andrew, as he told what is like to work for the marketing world, interacted with them, and even did some giveaways.
Overall, the event was a success as our students were able to directly learn from and interact with our speakers. It was not only a great networking opportunity, but a great night filled with food, great speakers, and amazing students!
