College of Architecture + The Arts alumna Valeria Yamamoto (BFA ’08) will sculpt pieces for Mockingbird Trail, a new project with Girls’ Club, Cadence, Flagler Village Community Garden, and Community Foundation of Broward.
Mockingbird Trail is an urban art trail encouraging residents to step outside and explore. It is a community-driven and exploration-based project that engages the community in the process of place-making. Mockingbird Trail is South Florida’s first urban art trail located in the emerging Flagler Village neighborhood of downtown Fort Lauderdale. (Source: Mockingbird Trial)
For this project, Yamamoto created a story about an elusive giant orange mockingbird that left evidence of its existence but was never seen. Along the Flagler Village neighborhood will be large sculptures of a hatching egg, feathers, and stepping stones with the mockingbird’s footprints. Yamamoto will begin constructing the sculptures at the end of June 2015.
The opening of the Mockingbird Trail will be on October 17th, 2015.
