dsc06395The Florida International University’s Art + Art History Department, alongside the Academy of Fine Arts (ASP) in Warsaw, have continued their global academic partnership and unveiled their new exhibition entitled, REKONESANS. The exhibition held at the Project Room at Bakehouse Art Complex, coincides with the 2016 edition of Art Basel, Miami Beach, an opportunity for FIU to contribute to the international and local art event.

REKONESANS was spearheaded by Prof. Prot Jarnuszkiewicz from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland and Prof. Jacek  J. Kolasinski the FIU A+AH Department Chair. This international art exchange features selected work created by the students of the academy; a leading institution of art and design in Central Europe. The cultural initiative displayed everything from printmaking to painting, to embroidery to digital media, creating a cooperative effort that combines conceptual and contemporary methods of art.

Proposed as an attempt to try to build a global dialogue between South Florida and Central Europe, Prof. Kolasinski and Prof. Jarnuszkiewicz, together with the help from the FIU MFA Curatorial Practice candidates, made REKONESANS possible. This academic connection serves as an opportunity that allows the students from different cultural backgrounds to share their perception on contemporary art. It also serves as a chance to continue the approach to form a unity between academic institutions on a global level. dsc06393

Locally, Art Basel Miami, is currently happening across Downtown Miami, Wynwood, Midtown and Miami Beach. This initiative, celebrates art and design on a much more grandiose level; hosting artwork and installations from highly celebrated and renown artists. FIU takes this opportunity to contribute the cultural art phenomena this week and celebrate global art dialogue in its own way.

The exhibition is running through the end of the year and it is open to the public. Future plans for the FIU A+AH and the ASP is to continue collaborating and expanding the exhibit to the FIU Miami Beach Urban Studios.
