Visual artist Sophie Dupont will conduct a workshop with students at Florida International University in mid-February, in addition to performing at the FIU Sculpture Park.
Sophie Dupont is a visual artist working in different mediums, including performance, photography, sculpture, and painting. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, she received a MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and has studied contemporary dance at London Contemporary Dance School. Although a multimedia artist, Dupont disregards media as the starting point for her works – an existential and poetic reflection on the basic human conditions on the basic elements and mechanisms of both body and mind. Her poetic and existential focus also often reflects in her works’ formal minimalism and choice of materials, which are often in dialogue with the body and mind – either symbolically or directly. Recurring themes in Dupont’s work are simple rituals and repetitions. Through these, she examines contradictions and connections between object and subject; body and psyche. Her past performances have, thus, been quiet poetic studies of respiration, body weight, balance, and movement. (Source: Sophie Dupont)
